We are leaving the confinement and the first thing that the young people of Kasserine have wanted to do has been to organize the closing party for the web radio project ‘Hello Kasserine’, which has already become its own radio, tunisian youth radio.
This beautiful initiative launched and executed by Coopera in Tunisia has culminated with the installation and entry into operation of a web radio called ‘Hello Kasserine’ and with 50 young people trained in radio skills, that are already producing and broadcasting their own content through the Internethttp://www.hola-kasserine.tn/
The closing event and awarding of diplomas has been attended by numerous officials from the region with the Governor of Kasserine in charge, the Commissioner for Women and Children and other political and administrative officials in the area. It was a nice party with live music, starring the young people of Kasserine and the joy of everyone to get out of the confinement.
Our objective in designing this project was to excite and give voice to the young men and women of the peripheral and rural city of Kasserine by offering them a ‘speaker’, a channel of self-expression where discuss their concerns and their rights and freedoms; but always in a context of moderation, defense of democratic culture, gender equality and individual freedoms, all of them values contrary to all forms of violent extremism.
At the end of the project we can say that our purpose has been achieved and that Coopera leaves a community radio station, made by and for young people, installed and running. In an area as Gafsa-Kasserine, located on the border with Algeria, where terrorism remains active and which are constant and radical extremist messages, an expression channel like radio makes more sense than ever.
From Coopera we thank the words of gratitude and recognition that have been transmitted to us and we also want to reciprocate our thanks for the welcome that this community has given us and for the success of the project that would not have been possible without its protagonists: Young, men and women, from Kasserine.
We also want to thank our local partners Coopera Tunisie, Ahlem et Toufoula y Fondation Ahmed Tlili y a los cofinanciador, the European Union through UNICRI.
